The Wilds Gauteng SC#3 Sun 24th February
The much rescheduled Wilds SC event took place on Feb 24th as the third event in
this year's SC series. Around 100 people turned up to experience this
"wild" area in the heart of Johanesburg. It is a small, yet amazing
area, ideally suited to Orienteering.
The courses were shorter than the previosu two events but still provided a
challenge, especially the climb which exceeded the 5% guidelines for which I
must apologise. Winning times were slightly longer than expected (based on the
times at the previous event) probably because the courses were planned to
minimise path running wherever possible.
Congratulations to Dylan and Tania on winning their respective courses and to
Josh who continues to show amazing promise.
My sincere thanks to TJ de Klerk for assisting with access to the park, parking
and security especially after attempts to deal with Johannesburg City Parks were
so fustrating, to my controller, Ken Robinson, for his input, and to the team of
"ROC stars" who ensured that all aspects of the event ran smoothly
from registration via the start to the finish. Amazingly, all the controls were
collected and equipment packed up by 11h30.
