MTB before receiving post race wash....
The 1st MTBO event for about 3 years was held at Groenkloof Nature Reserve yesterday, 80 MTB orienteers took to the hill on 3 courses; Long 22km, Medium 14km and Short 8km. The majority of the participants went for the Long, some of whom regretted this decision somewhere around halfway when the rain came down and the were still left with a slog around the mountain in what was become a very slippery track..
The winner on the long course was Martin Dreyer, followed closely by AR club Garry Morrison in 3rd place, Alex Pope was on for a good time, but he missed a control in his haste to get from one side of the reserve to the other.
There is definately a need to bring in more MTBO events in the next years calendar, let's hope the other O clubs are up to the challenge....
Thanks to the ROC organising team for a fabulous event, Nicholas and Jaques for placing controls, George and Joan for registration and control collecting and starts as well as Trevor, Alex and Sarah, and Ian for collecting controls.. Also thanks for Michele and Eugene for control collecting and helping at the finish.
Full results should be available soon.....
