Embargoes: All Colour-coded, Championship, Cup and Long-O / MM areas are out of bounds from date of calendar publication until the event unless otherwise specified. Sprint Log and MTB Log events are embargoed from the day before unless otherwise noted. Logs: (updated 9/1/2013) MTB log - 3 of 5 events will count for the Mountain Bike Log SC log - 5 of 9 events will count for the Short Course Log, with the final event (SC 8) scoring 120% points. CC log - 8 of 17 events (CC + CH) will count for the Colour-Coded Log, with a maximum of 2 Champs (CH) counting. Types of Events: SL - Schools League - Separate league of orienteering events held on Mondays for participating schools only usually held in the month of February each year Short Course - Foot Orienteering shorter events held in parks and school campuses with little physical demands , quick route choices and sometimes tricky navigation between buildings Colour Coded or Cross Country - Foot Orienteering longer courses with more technical orienteering and physical demands courses graded by a colour coding system: Brown - Difficult navigation, longest and hardest route, suitable for very experienced orienteers Blue - Difficult navigation, longer and hard physically, suitable for experienced orienteers Green - Difficult navigation controls not on line features, shorter distances , suitable for experienced orienteers Light Green - Moderate navigation, use of definite point features, suitable for youths and inexperienced orienteers Red - Easy navigation, longer distances along paths, suitable for athlete who don't want to get lost Orange - Easy navigation,No steep climbs, suitable for beginners and children Yellow - Kids course White - Young children with cartoon characters for controls with special maps Mountain Bike - Orienteering on mountain bikes, longer courses than on foot all on paths longer courses more physical with lots of technical riding and climb |
