Remembering Hugh Crail
It is with sadness we heard of the passing of Hugh Crail
Although it is many years since he was involved in Orienteering in South Africa, he will be remembered as one of the pioneers of the sport here.
His excellent map of Moffat Park, which was first used for the Transvaal Champs in 1984 remains an excellent example of early mapping in Johannesburg. In fact most of the map is still usable today as the area has changed very little over the past 27 years – one of the few areas in Johannesburg (along with Delta Park and Alberts Farm) which have remained fundamentally unchanged.

Brains and Speed
Congratulations to ROC's Sarah Pope who has just completed Matric with 7 Distinctions and 1 B+, and she managed this while still remaining extremely competitive at the orienteering events towards the end of the year.
Well done Sarah ROC committee and members wish you all the best for the future in sport and academics.
